Effective decontamination protects patient from infection

Globally, hundreds of millions of people are affected every year by avoidable infections in health care (health care-associated infections, HAIs). Decontamination of flexible endoscopes plays a very important role in the prevention of HAIs. Indeed, improper cleaning and disinfection of reusable objects, including endoscopic devices, still occurs in many settings, thus leading to HAIs. The processes of decontamination are complex, require specific infrastructure and equipment and involve several steps that need to be correct – from the collection of devices, receipt at the unit, processing, storage and distribution throughout the facility.

Effective decontamination protects patient from infection, ensures the quality of diagnostic procedures and samples, and prolongs the life of equipment. Irrespective of the method of disinfection or sterilization, cleaning is an essential stage in the decontamination procedure and the manufacturers’ instructions should always be followed. An endorsement of the compatibility of the endoscope with the decontamination process is essential.

Assurance of access to all channels during the cleaning, disinfection and rinse stages of the decontamination procedure is essential. The endoscopes used for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) have an Elevation Bridge Channel, which is very narrow and flushing it is a major challenge. Belimed can provide you with the right product for multiple types of flexible endoscopes and their reprocessing.

The safety of patients and medical staff is the focus of our developments. The WD 425 and WD 430 washer-disinfectors reliably prevent the transmission of infection through contaminated endoscopic instruments by using the highest quality processing.

Our WD 425 and WD 430 washer-disinfectors for flexible endoscopes stand for performance, quality and safety. All requirements of EN ISO 15883-1 and 15883-4 are fully met in the tested configurations. This ensures the safe reprocessing of endoscopic instruments. Redundant monitoring of all important parameters, a minimal space requirement and simple installation round off the product.

Of course, the final rinse is performed using thermally disinfected DI water to ensure consistent quality and prevent recontamination of the endoscopes.
